Company mission
Feather Dance Company’s mission is to connect culture and people through dance. We strive to expand the possibilities of contemporary dance while honoring the rhythms, sensibilities, and refined aesthetic values unique to Japan. Through international performances, we aim to build connections that transcend borders and languages, to share the joy and power of expression with a broader audience, and to contribute to the growth and enrichment of the global dance community.
- Why We Stand
Through years of dance activities in the United States, we were deeply moved by how closely art and daily life are intertwined.
People express themselves freely in their everyday lives, and art exists not as something separate or elevated, but as something natural and ever-present.
In contrast, Japan holds a profound beauty in every intentional movement and a refined sensitivity shaped by quiet perseverance. This care and sincerity reflect the essence of Japanese culture.
However, contemporary dance is still often perceived as distant or unfamiliar, and many barriers remain to integrating it into daily life.
This is why we continue to ask ourselves:

Feathers Dance Company was born from a desire to bridge these two cultures—combining the expressive freedom of America with the delicate sensibilities and cultural depth of Japan.

Origin of Our Name
The word “feather” may sound simple, but its forms and functions are incredibly diverse. Feathers create propulsion, control wind, repel rain, and protect the body—all of which play a vital role in survival and are ultimately responsible for soaring high into the sky. We, too, each carry a different kind of feather. No two are the same. Every individual brings a unique strength and a distinct expression. Feathers Dance Company was named with this in mind—a place where diverse feathers come together and take flight powerfully and boldly on a shared stage.
